Moorebank Avenue Upgrade, start of major works

Current Works
Wednesday 6th January 2021

Work has commenced on the upgrade of Moorebank Avenue as part of the development of Moorebank Intermodal Terminal and Moorebank Logistics Park. BMD has completed early construction activities that have enabled major construction to begin.

As part of the Moorebank Avenue upgrade, a temporary detour road will be built adjacent to the west of Moorebank Avenue. This detour road will be constructed between south of Anzac Road and about 300m south of Chatham Avenue. Construction of the detour road will start from 13 January 2021. We expect this work to be complete by August 2021. Pedestrian access will be on the east side of Moorebank Avenue only and will be restricted to stop just south of the Piccolo Me cafe.

Most work will be carried out from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm Saturdays. Some out of hours work will be required to minimise traffic delays at critical construction phases, we will provide you separate notifications about any out of hours work.

Once the detour road construction is complete, traffic will be switched over to allow work on the existing Moorebank Avenue alignment to commence. The detour road will allow the upgrade of Moorebank Avenue to be less disruptive to road users and provide a safer journey.

The upgrade of Moorebank Avenue will include widening from one lane to two in each direction between the Piccolo Me café and the entry to our project’s import/export rail terminal (where the current temporary traffic lights are located). New permanent traffic signals will also be installed at the existing site entry and new entry adjacent to the Target warehouse on the eastern side of the road.

The road level will also be raised by about two metres to improve drainage and ensure consistent ground levels with the development sites either side of Moorebank Avenue.

Activities on site will include utility adjustment, earthworks, drainage work, traffic signal installation, asphalting, footpath construction, kerb and gutter re-alignment, line marking and signposting.

Lane closures and contra-flow traffic arrangements will be in place outside peak hours. Some delays are expected due to changed traffic conditions while the work is carried out. To ensure the safety of road users and workers, please follow the direction of traffic controllers and adhere to reduced speed limits and changed traffic signs.

There will be noise associated with this work, however every effort will be made to minimise the impact of the work on nearby residents and businesses.

The Moorebank Avenue upgrade is due for completion by the end of 2022.
