Work notification – Moorebank Avenue upgrade

Current Works
Friday 28th May 2021

There will soon be an increase in activity to upgrade Moorebank Avenue as part of the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal development.

Diversion of Moorebank Avenue

In mid 2021, all vehicles travelling on Moorebank Avenue will temporarily detour along a new diversion road instead of the existing roadway. The detour will remain in place while the existing roadway is upgraded.

The diversion road, adjacent to the existing road, will extend for two kilometres, from just south of Anzac Road to Anzac Creek (just north of the East Hills railway line; see map here).

The upgraded Moorebank Avenue will be in the same location as the existing roadway and is scheduled to open in late 2022.

Further information will be provided prior to the opening of the diversion road.

Upcoming work

Preparatory work including relocation of traffic signals, movement of traffic barriers, pavement of road surface, and marking of new lines will be undertaken prior to the diversion. SIMTA contractors will work both day and night shifts between 3 June and 26 June.

Day shift hours will be 7am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Night shift hours will be 9pm to 5am, Monday to Saturday.

No night work will take place on the long weekend, 11 to 14 June and there will be no lane closures on Moorebank Avenue during weekday peak traffic periods of 6-10am or 3-7pm.

This work has been scheduled in consultation with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to minimise disruption to local residents, businesses and road users. All work will be completed in accordance with management plans approved by TfNSW.

Work activities that disrupt the flow of traffic on Moorebank Avenue will be prioritised for completion during the night, including excavation, removal of old service infrastructure – gas pipes, telephone lines and water mains – traffic barrier placement and road re-instatement and asphalting.

During the day we will complete activities that are less disruptive to traffic, such as footpath removal, fence placement, sandstone placement, and installation of lights. Where possible, noisy works will take place during the day.

How this may affect you

Moorebank Avenue will remain open at all times during the work. Although motorists may experience minor delays due to lane closures, reduced speed limits, traffic stoppages and changed traffic conditions.

Traffic controllers and temporary road safety barriers will be in place to ensure the safety of all road users and workers. If you are travelling on Moorebank Avenue during this time, please keep to the speed limits and follow signs and the direction of traffic controllers.

There will be some night work associated with this project. Where possible the noisiest activities will be completed during the day and, where night work is required, we will take reasonable measures to minimise noise impacts on surrounding residents.

We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and thank you for your patience while we complete work on this important transport infrastructure project.
